Dada-ismb: The New Neuroses
Feb 27th
So went to the Doctor last week for the regular, monthly checkup. All was good, but Marni had to take a quad screen . The quad screen is conducted during the second trimester (15 weeks to 22 weeks) to identify pregnancies at a higher risk for Down syndrome, trisomy 18, or an open neural tube defect.
It’s a simple blood test that will help tell us if our baby-to-be might (operative word here) have some defects. In other words, the test is far from perfect. Still, a good score means you have less to worry about. A bad score means that you have more (but you also may not need more).
Yikes. Talk about a new source of agida! Yikes. While not the first time in my life that I had little control of the outcome of a test, I couldn’t help but feel a little vulnerable. Could I have prepared myself for it? Is there any way that I could done something to further insure that my kid passes.
I guess this is a glimpse into my future.
BTW – The test came back great. All is good with little Z. Or at least we have a good chance of thinking so….Argggh!!!

So, I’m going to become a father!
Sometime shortly after Marni and I did the NYC marathon , we conceived. It had been a relatively long haul: We’d been trying since about March 2005. While we weren’t concerned, we were starting to look at it.
Well, sometime in November, bada-bing, bada-boom, little Z was conceived.
It’s really cool but also a little freaky at the same time.

Just in case you were curious, I actually got the new Motherboard to work. I had to buy a 300W power supply (instead of the recently purchased 250W one I just bought). Once I got it, it powered up a-ok.
I connected all the cables and restarted the machine with the Sysprep utility from Microsoft. It worked perfectly. It’s like having a new computer.
Woo Hoo!

I’m having a major cow with my home computer’s MotherBoard. It’s mostly broken:
- The power light doesn’t turn off
- The parallel printer port sometimes doesn’t work
- The floppy drive doesn’t work
- The COM Ports doesn’t work.
But, everything else about the computer is fine.
Of course, all of this happened, literally, one week after the warranty expired. Arggh.
So, what to do?
